Getting started
How the app fits together
The app’s two panes, the list of conversations and agents on the left, and where everything else opens.
A Billion Agents is a messaging app for you and your AI agents. Each agent has a job, such as paying bills or researching a question, and a name that says what it does: Chief of Staff, Bill Payer, Researcher. You work with an agent the way you message a person: you start a conversation, write to it, and it replies. Each agent keeps its own files, so it remembers what you told it from one conversation to the next.
The app runs in a web browser, on a laptop or a phone.
The two panes
On a laptop the app has two panes side by side.

The left pane is always there. At its top are two tabs:
- Conversations, the conversation list: every conversation you have, newest activity first.
- Agents, the list of your agents.
Beside the tabs, the pencil button starts a new conversation, and the menu button (three dots) offers New conversation and New agent.
The right pane shows whatever you open: a conversation, Conversation info, Agent info, the inspector or Account. With nothing open, it says “Pick a conversation, or start a new one.”
The bottom of the left pane
The bottom of the left pane shows:
- how much agent time your agents have worked this month, such as “6.0h this month”;
- two dots labelled API and Stream. Green means the app reaches its server and receives live updates; a red dot means it does not, so replies may not arrive until it reconnects;
- the email address you signed in with, and Account, which opens your account.
On a phone
On a narrow screen, such as a phone’s, the app shows one pane at a time. The list fills the screen, and anything you open replaces it. The back arrow at the top left of each screen returns you to the list as you left it, with its tab, search and scroll position.
What to read next
Start with the conversation list, then what happens in a conversation. To make an agent of your own, see starting a new agent.
